Total beginners to advanced beginners
Basics of yoga practice, exploring the foundational and therapeutic aspects of postures and breath.

LEVEL 1/2
Advanced beginners/Intermediate
Moderately paced practice, a bridge between basic and more challenging, intermediate level postures. Adventurous beginners welcome.

LEVEL 2
Intermediate/some advanced
Moving deeper into intermediate poses with some advanced variations introduced. Regular yoga practice, knowledge of yoga principles and postures, good body-mind awareness recommended.

 

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

YOGA FOR BEGINNERS
Learn the ABCs of yoga: what is it, what are the benefits, different schools of yoga, how to start the asana (posture) practice, applying correct alignment, pranayama (breathing techniques), basics of meditation. Ongoing. Join any time. The "True Beginners' Yoga" class is more basic and gentler, the Yoga For Beginners & Beyond" is a bit more challenging and faster moving.

VINYASA (FLOW) YOGA
Vinyasa yoga is a popular, evolving form of traditional hatha yoga that focuses on integrating breath and movement, awareness and alignment, strength and flexibility, your practice with your daily life. Postures are connected through the breath for a transformative and balancing effect. Depending on the practitioner's needs, it can vary from quite vigorous to more restorative.

ASHTANGA VINYASA YOGA
This powerful and vigorous practice purifies and realigns the body clearing energy channels blocked by years of stress and arouses the internal fire helping to cleanse, detoxify and strengthen the body. Based on Ashtanga yoga primary series.



ANUSARA YOGA

Anusara yoga honors and celebrates the place of heart, sees the good in all people and exemplifies a life affirming perspective in the relationship to all situations. Anusara literally means to "be with the flow" or  " to be with the essence" of nature and to "follow your heart." It holds a vision that each of us has the power from within to unravel an all-encompassing beauty, bountiful and limitless, and exude this magnificent luster in everyday life. The practice of Anusara Yoga begins from the place of the heart while illuminating a system of Universal Principles of Alignment that continue to reveal the art of asana interweaving mind body and spirit.

GENTLE/THERAPEUTIC YOGA
This class will provide students of all levels with a combination of Yoga Therapeutics and Restorative Yoga. Yoga Therapeutics utilizes exercises and movements to help the body move into alignment and balance in order to reduce and eliminate pain. Restorative yoga is an "active relaxation”, supporting the body with props (blankets, bolsters, blocks and belts) to relieve stress. This class is appropriate for all levels including people working with chronic pain, illness or injuries. It allows ample time to address questions and concerns. Students who currently practice yoga and experience physical discomfort during certain asanas can also benefit. It will be taught using the Anusara Principles of Alignment.
At the moment only private sessions are available.


KUNDALINI YOGA
Kundalini Yoga is a distinct and dynamic style of yoga that aims to generate a powerful vibrational experience through the synchronization of breath movements, body movements, and repetitive mantras. Kundalini Yoga is called "the yoga of awareness" - it activates and requires a focus and attention of energy that extends beyond the muscular and skeletal forms of other hatha yoga traditions and firmly addresses the nervous and glandular systems, as well as the emotional bodies and electromagnetic field.
Prepare for the delights of harmonizing your body, mind, and spirit!

 

CHAKRA YOGA
Chakra Yoga is Brooke's unique fusion of hatha and kundalini styles aimed to awaken each of  the 7 chakras - energy centers of the body-mind-spirit. Each week we will focus our attentions on a different chakra, and gain new yogic tools and techniques for bringing each chakra into better balance and harmonization: asanas, kriyas, pranayamas, and mantras. (If you don't know what those words mean, come and learn!)   This class is perfect for all who wish to continue fine-tuning their chakras into a glorious, full-spectrum radiance, as well as new students wanting a more colorful yoga experience.


DEEP STRETCH & RESTORATIVE YOGA
This calming, healing, relaxing, and as-challenging-as-you-make-it yoga practice is open to students with all levels of experience. As the postures are held for longer time in a more passive way, an increased flow of energy is experienced as the deep connective tissue of the body opens and stretches, releasing tension and stored-up toxins. Many yoga students are finding this kind of practice to be the perfect compliment to their more active yoga practices. Also excellent for the meditators and athletes. Restorative poses offer benefits to both the body and mind, for conditions ranging from insomnia to asthma to chronic pain to migraines to depression.
Please bring a small towel and an eye bag if you have it.

May 6 2009 special mini workshop for people who want to learn (or review) the yogic way to take care of their backs. Specially great for people whose backs have been overworked from gardening, or are having a nagging low back pain and unstable back that sometimes "goes out".
The focus in this practice will be on alignment, gentle stretching and therapeutic restorative yoga postures for the back.
Open level. Also recommended for yoga teachers.

YOGA FOR CHILDREN
Children today are under a lot of stress, homework, pressure to compete with other children, endless after school activities and over-scheduling. Children that practice yoga can benefit both physically and mentally in a variety of ways:
- Yoga helps develop balance, stability and poise.
- It improves coordination and special awareness.
- Breathing techniques improve concentration and energy levels
- Relaxation techniques clear the mind allowing better memory retention
- Postures help to recharge a weak immune system and strengthen the core stabilizing muscles of the abdomen and back
- Yoga maintains a child’s natural flexibility, which they can otherwise lose from a surprisingly young age, especially with today’s sedentary lifestyle
- Yoga develops creativity and self-expression
- Partner yoga helps the children learn social skills and build trust
Studies show that other benefits of yoga help those that suffer from allergies and asthma, A.D.D and hyperactivity, obesity, eyesight and headaches.  

YOGA KIDS

In a magical and fun atmosphere kids will enjoy a combination of yoga, movement and make believe. They will delight in the opportunity to playfully erupt in volcano pose, dance like the wind with scarves, flow like seaweed in the ocean or be a great wise old tree. They'll love the freedom to "crazy dance" to great world music and tell stories about the animals they are creating in different yoga postures. Each class also includes a short guided meditation to introduce children to the value of stillness and quieting the mind. Kids love this class and parents will feel good knowing that they are enhancing their self-esteem, coordination, self-expression and connection to spirit.

YOGA GIRL

Yoga for girls is about getting connected, centered and healthy, building confidence and expressing oneself in this fun, non-competitive yoga class. Girls will have the chance to honor their bodies and develop a cool yoga practice that will help them to get stronger, more flexible and balanced. Class also includes yoga games, free style dance, meditation and sharing circles. Join us to connect with your awesome, unbelievable self!

YOGA BOY
This class is for young boys wanting to increase flexibility and strength and to examine proper alignment through fun yoga postures to prevent sports injuries. Learning about the power of breath and meditation this class will help boys focus better in the classroom as well as provide the necessary tools and strategies to calm and soothe themselves.


PREGNANCY YOGA AND CIRCLE
In an atmosphere of trust and support expectant moms gather to share their experiences and to explore feelings about pregnancy, birth and approaching motherhood.  Our primary focus is to honor pregnancy as a special and sacred time in a woman's life. We'll start each class with gentle yoga and meditation and have time for birth art, circle discussion and journaling.  Marin will also be teaching the Calm Birth™  Methods for empowered childbirth.  (www.calmbirth.org).
This circle is open to women in all stages of pregnancy.
Some of the circle topics: honoring birth as a rite of passage, birthing choices, body image, the shadow side of mothering, the balance of relationships and more.
